Mother of autistic boys starts school

by CBS 12 cares

A Palm Beach Gardens mom of twin boys with autism has decided to start her own school for children with the disorder.

Patricia Munoz-Upton has tried everything for 9-year-old Arturo and Ronnie. She has tried public school, private school, home-schooling but she still doesn't feel like her boys are getting what they need.

Upton will start The Upton Academy on 4-acres of land off Donald Ross Road near I-95. The school will have horseback riding, karate, specialized meal plans and curriculum for each child.

The school is expected to cost about $70,000 per child, but Patricia has set up a non-profit in order to get funding to cut down on tuition costs for parents. It's called the American Association for Disabled Children, Inc.
