DEPUTIES: Daughter Stabs Dad As He's Choking Autistic Son

A child stabbed her own father, deputies say, as he was choking his 9-year-old autistic son.

Wayne County deputies say it happened last Wednesday night at their home on Combs Road in Goldsboro.

Deputies say the 11-year-old came into the room to find her father choking her brother. She told investigators she couldn't get her father to stop so she got a steak knife and stabbed John Sawyer in the arm.

Sawyer is charged with assault with a deadly weapon and assault on a handicapped person. Captain Tom Efler says additional charges are possible against Sawyer.

No charges will be brought against the child.

The 9-year-old boy is okay and both children are at home with their mother. Their father remains in the Wayne County jail on a $20,000 bond.
